The Challenge
A tier 1 automotive supplier, committed to protecting health and the environment, approached Envita Solutions with the goal to reduce landfill disposal by 10% annually across their 38 manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Canada.
The Solution
Envita evaluated the company’s waste segregation and immediately began diverting all recyclable materials from landfills. The team continued to look for improvements with the remaining trash. They found a second opportunity to increase sustainability in the facility by sending the leftover items to a waste-to-energy facility. With corporate and facility support, three North American manufacturing sites achieved zero-waste-to-landfill (ZWLF) status, with 100% of materials avoiding landfills.
The Result
More than 1,000 tons of waste is diverted from landfill per year thanks to these three facilities, which is equivalent to 2,905 metric tons of CO2 annually. This milestone represents an ongoing commitment to sustainability as Envita continues to work toward ZWLF status across additional facilities.
