The Challenge
A global automotive manufacturer faced sending large volumes of clean concrete and demolition waste generated from ongoing renovation and construction projects to landfill. This created unnecessary disposal expenses and a missed opportunity to advance the company’s broader sustainability goals, including achieving zero-waste-to-landfill status across its operations.
The Solution
To address these challenges, Envita Solutions partnered with the manufacturer’s environmental quality office to launch a new concrete recycling initiative. Clean concrete from ongoing projects was diverted from landfills and redirected to a nearby concrete recycling facility for processing. Once crushed, the recycled material was stored in a designated area, with plans to reuse it as backfill and road base for future infrastructure improvements. Envita also implemented a targeted demolition-waste recovery program, which involved collecting, sorting, and recycling 14 tons of universal and electronic waste, such as monitors, batteries, light bulbs, and keyboards. 50 tons of ceiling tiles were also diverted to a secondary reuse facility.
The Result
By partnering with Envita, our customer successfully implemented circular solutions that converted waste into valuable site resources. Through our partnership 667 tons of clean concrete has be diverted from landfill, 14 tons of universal and electric was has been responsibly recycled, and 50 tons of ceiling has bee repurposed.
