Hydraulic fluid viscosity drops sharply in low temperatures, causing sluggish operation, increased mechanical wear, and potential system damage.

Switch to cold-weather hydraulic fluid. Using fluids designed for low-temperature performance maintains the necessary viscosity for smooth hydraulic operations.

Door seals and loading doors are vulnerable to ice formation, which can jam mechanisms and prevent access.

Apply low-temperature lubricants. Greases suited for freezing environments keep hinges, latches, and rams moving freely.

Thaw sealed components safely. When doors freeze shut, using deicers or dry heat prevents damage—hot water should be avoided.

Moisture-laden waste freezes within chutes and bags, leading to blockages and equipment strain.

Control moisture in waste streams. Avoiding liquid waste, adding small amounts of salt or urea, or pre-freezing bags outside before compaction can reduce internal ice jams.

Conduct warm-up cycles before use. Short, routine activation of the ram warms critical components, clears condensation, and helps prevent freeze-related damage.

Ensure electrical protection and insulation. Sealing connections, clearing snow from panels, and ensuring heaters work keeps control systems at optimal performance.
