Did you know that by February, 80% of New Years Resolutions have been forgotten? “New year, new me,” doesn’t have to be a giant undertaking that shakes everything up to make a difference. Instead, shaking up old mindsets and focusing on creating a new, more sustainable waste management plan is within reach. Envita Solution’s Director of Innovation and Technology, Chris Ames, recently shared his thoughts with Waste Advantage Magazine on how to design a strategy to reduce a company’s carbon footprint and realize those New Year’s resolutions.
Waste Advantage Magazine is a publication that focuses on providing news and information to the waste and recycling industry. The magazine provides updates, trends, and thought leadership pieces to help keep experts informed.
In his piece, Ames sets up the roadmap for how to create a solution tailored to a company’s unique sustainability needs. He breaks it down into four steps: evaluating production byproducts, creating a program-based plan, educating stakeholders, and putting your plan in place.
Sustainability goals vary from company to company, ranging from reducing waste, implementing recycling programs, zero waste to landfill, to carbon-free programs. Ames explains how plans should be focused on program-based and site-specific objectives.
“Every day, the emphasis on developing clean and more sustainable business practices to support the environment grows, causing companies to re-evaluate their beliefs, standards, and goals,” Ames said.
